OPEN Physical Education Curriculum
OPEN Curriculum Modules - OPEN Physical

Early Childhood (Ages 3-5)

In an effort to afford early childhood education providers equity of access to the highest-quality movement education programming ,OPEN has launched a content development effort with the help of some of the nation’s most respected physical education and early childhood content.

Locomotor and Manipulative Skills
(Primary K-2)

This module includes activities that are designed to develop and reinforce several locomotor and manipulative skills. All of the basic locomotor skills, static and dynamic balancing, as well as underhand tossing, rolling, and catching are addressed. Other learning outcomes are also addressed within the module’s activities.

Fitness Knowledge
(Intermediate 3-5)

This module includes content and activities that are designed to develop and reinforce all of the SHAPE America Grade-Level Outcomes associated with National Standard 3. In order to address each outcome, it’s important that teachers and students utilize the included Fitness Portfolio. The suggested Module Block Plan can be followed exactly or used as a guide for introducing Fitness Portfolio pages in an appropriate sequence. We also recommend blending fitness knowledge concepts throughout the school year. Participation in the Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP) and the use of FITNESSGRAM™ 2015 are strongly recommended.
